NBA Lockout 2011 news update: Games canceled through December 15, 2012

NBA LockoutThe latest news on the 2011 NBA Lockout is that the NBA canceled NBA games through December 15, 2011. NBA teams were notified on Tuesday of this new extension of the lock. The NBA lockout has not entered more than 140 days. This is on the bigger side of 26 percent of the 2011-2012 season, and there really is no end in sight.

The NBA locked-out players filed class-action antitrust lawsuits against the NBA on Tuesday in at least two states, which brings the whole issue to federal court. The players are doing so because, as their attorney, David Boies, says, "...the NBA lockout violates antitrust laws by refusing to allow players to work."

If the players win, it is said that they could win up to 3 times the amount of money the players would have made playing this season.

How do you feel about the NBA Lockout? Are you a heated fan, pissed off that you're missing the season, or could you care less that NBA basketball is currently not playing? Do you think the players are being greedy? The owners? Both?

2011 NBA Lockout news

NBA Lockout 2011

The two sides of the NBA Lockout tried negotiating for nearly 11 hours yesterday. The NBA presented a proposal to the players that needs to be agreed to by next week, and could result in a 72-game season that would begin on December 15, 2011.

NBA Commissioner David Stern said, "There is nothing left to negotiate about." Stating that they have, "done everything possible that was possible to do."

If the two sides of the argument cannot come together on a decision, it is reported that players will quickly move toward decertifying the union or issue a disclaimer of interest, either of these options would allow the players to file antitrust litigation that would more than likely jeopardize the whole 2011-2012 NBA basketball season.

So far, the NBA Lockout has lasted 134 days, as of last Friday, and has been the result of 221 preseason and regular season games being canceled.

Hopefully, the answer to peoples question, "When will the 2011 NBA season start?", or, "When will the NBA Lockout end?" will be December 15, 2011. We'll see what happens in the next week with the current proposal.
